PROVYS has extended its production management module

Following its development plan for this year and requirements of its clients PROVYS has heavily invested into its production management module to extend scope and depth of its functionality. The production module as provided by PROVYS now covers all expectations of both commercial and public broadcasters.

The production management module was added to this broadcast management enterprise solution as a standard extension to integrate the broadcast planning, archiving and production management processes into a unified workflow environment in the year 2005.

From its beginning the production management module was successfully satisfying requirements of production planning, budgeting, resource management, dispatching, and production cost tracking of its enterprise customers.

This extension is the first add-on to this module providing these functions and improvements:

  • multi-level strategic production budgeting and project approval workflow
The strategic budget planners and decision makers can now start their production cost planning at the top-most level of the strategic plan and break-down the expected costs into production project proposals. Using the proposal approval workflow the decision which of these proposals is to be accepted into the production plan is completely supported in the same environment. Automatic strategic plan updates following accepted proposals are providing immediate feedback on the budget evolution.
  • episode group production project planning, budgeting, and management
Production managers can now organize their productions into groups with a potential to combine their production budgets and plans into a single entity. Arbitrary combination of budgets and production plans is allowed to provide unlimited freedom in the production planning and evaluation.
  • multi-day activities support
Production managers and resource dispatchers are now provided with a functionality to plan multi-day activities and assign resources to these activities in a natural way. The activity planning supports advanced activity planning functions, graphical resource request editing, and resource assignment with automatic resource mapping according to multiple days of the activity. All resource usage reporting, costing, and allocation conflict reporting are modified to support these activities.
  • resource set planning
Complete resource set planning and assignment support has been added to work with resource sets. Resources containing other resources can now be ordered in a single request hierarchically ordering all of demanded resources. Such a request can be again fulfilled by a single operation filling all demanded resources according to the structure of the request. The subordinate resources can be cost, reported, and managed in the same unified way as the top-level resources.
  • shift based resource allocation support
The resource dispatchers were originally provided with functions letting them to assign human resources to resource requests individually or to plan human resources to shifts allocated to various production locations and rooms. The newly implemented extension is providing them an option to download the human resources into the resource request from a previously prepared shift plan to have a direct assignment between the shift member and individual production. Productivity of human resource dispatching demanding direct resource allocation and following a shift pattern is thus heavily increased.
  • resource allocation change request workflow
Communication between the production manager and resource dispatching regarding changes in the activity and its requests made by the production manager and by the resource dispatching (replanning, resource alternations, etc.) is now supported by a change request workflow. A change in the activity and resource request is reported separately providing options to approve or decline the desired change. The production managers and resource dispatchers are being provided with complete information on the recent and new content of the request and activity to make their decisions. Automatic cancellation costing related to the previous request and activity is supported with a flexible cancellation-costing scheme.
  • undispatched resources warehouse
Management of resources not dispatched by resource dispatching were a significant weakness of the production management module. This weakness is now completely eliminated by a resource warehouse functionality linked with resource requests and resource utilization reporting. Personal responsibility for the resources provided from the warehouse can be tracked following the resource allocation tickets. Cost of usage of these resources can be charged to the production project following the costing rules applied to the dispatched resources.

PROVYS team is confident that this functional extension is going to increase the value of the production management module used by its customers and proposed to its potential users. Its tight integration with the broadcast management and archiving functionality provided by the PROVYS® TVoffice enterprise solution is providing them with a unified information support and workflow environment starting with strategic planning and going down to reporting and evaluation through all levels of management decisions and operations.
